Jo Downs Glass

Since graduating from Sunderland University in the early 90's and opening her first studio in Muswell Hill, London, Jo Downs has become one of the world's most respected fused glass designers and manufacturers.

Most of her designs draw inspiration from where she is based, in and around the beautiful coastline of Cornwall.

We have been stocking Jo Downs since we opened in May 2014 and her fused glass have always proved a successful product for us. Whether its decorative and interior statement pieces for the home, or more practical pieces like her soap dishes and mirrors or the jewellery and earring dishes, which have recently proved a huge win for us.

We have found that Jo Downs customers fall into two types. Many of them are finding her work for the first time, but a great number have already discovered her, well before we did, whilst they holidayed on the Cornish coast.

Jo Downs fused glass has attracted the attention of the rich and famous across the world, including special commissions for the home of jazz and soul singer Joss Stone, where Jo was asked to produce a number of bespoke door and window panels.

Plus many corporate companies have given Jo large commissions for architectural and interior projects over the years, including Hilton Hotels, P&O, for two of their cruise liners Arcadia and Ventura, where she produced two spectacular eleven metre glass ceiling panels, plus commissions for church windows and hospitals.

In 2015 Jo's studio in Cornwall helped produce two amazing projects for stairwells in hospitals in North Wales, at Wrexham Maelor and Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor, to commemorate organ donation, with a display called 'Rhodd o Fywyd' (Gift of Life). A truly amazing display of fish, butterflies and birds designed by Karen and Tony van de Bospoort. Both designs won silver medals at an international awards ceremony recently for their innovative artwork and design.

Jo Downs continues to produce individual designs for corporate clients around the globe, but her design team are constantly looking to see how they can add stylish pieces to their home collection.

As no two pieces will ever look the same, we are sure that Jo Downs fused glass will continue to go from strength to strength and her stylish designs will continue to be a great match for and Roobarb.
